Maadi's Oh! Coffee Celebrates One Year of Coffee, Music & Community

Come for the flat white, stay for the accidental social life.

Mariam Abdelrazek

Maadi’s Greek-Egyptian fusion café Oh! Coffee just hit the one-year mark and celebrated in the most Oh! Coffee way possible: with regulars, good coffee, something sweet on the table, and a set by Lydie the Djette.

Co-founded by experiential designer Sarah T. Shannon — the mind behind The Cult and The Cult Shop — alongside her brother Omar T. Shannon, the space was never really built to be a grab-your-latte-and-go kind of place.

The menu stays close to what a neighbourhood café does best: good coffee, Greek-Egyptian baked goods and desserts, plus a Mediterranean-leaning breakfast spread for people who end up staying longer than expected.

Between filmmaking workshops, photography sessions, matcha-making workshops, dog necklace beading (yes), and the ever-famous Marwan gathering, there’s usually something happening beyond the coffee. Music, especially, has become part of the place’s identity, with listening sessions like Sound Obsessions and RadiOH! — the café’s own music platform — making what’s playing feel just as considered as what’s being served.

So for year one, they didn’t reinvent the formula. They opened the doors, put on good music, fed people something good, and let everyone do what they were probably going to do anyway: hang out.
