Taking from its century-old garden, Cairo Marriott Hotel follows a 'garden to table' approach, growing its own ingredients.

When Zamalek’s storied Cairo Marriott Hotel was first built in the 1869—under the name of El Gezira Palace—it was surrounded by stunning gardens and vast green spaces that served more than just an aesthetic purpose. For over 150 years, the hotel’s ‘Jardin des Plantes,’ with its exotic flora and centuries-old trees, has been a source of sustenance, providing fresh homegrown ingredients for the Cairo Marriott Hotel.

With several culinary destinations that call Cairo Marriott Hotel home, there is virtually no cuisine left unexplored. While each demands its own meticulous culinary practices, there remains a common denominator that simply no plate can go without; herbs and greens. While sourcing the aforementioned ingredients should not prove too difficult, Cairo Marriott Hotel decided to keep it in the -proverbial - family.

The hotel proudly showcases its commitment to sustainability by growing its own ingredients, following a ‘garden to table’ approach, where Cairo Marriott Hotel’s expert chefs utilise the abundance of herbs and freshly harvested produce to add to the flavours of their dishes. Among the lush greenery, you'll find a variety of herbs, including thyme, rosemary, basil, lemongrass, and mint, each thoughtfully selected to add flavour, sprinkle a little garnish, and inject more than just a single touch of love to Cairo Marriott Hotel’s diverse cuisines.

So the next time you find yourself savouring Spaghetti al pomodoro fresco e basilico at Cairo Marriott Hotel’s Tuscany, rest assured that the basil on top was only a few steps away just hours earlier.
