This Fteer Spot Lets You Bring Your Own Fillings
Cairo’s had Build-A-Fteera at Am Fawzy for 80 years and somehow we still never got Build-A-Bear.
In a tiny nook on Garage Street in Hadayek El Kobba, Fatatry Am Fawzy has been doing things a little differently for more than 80 years. There’s no menu, no preset fillings, and no fancy add-ons. You bring your own ingredients - cheese, veggies, pastrami, honey, whatever your heart’s craving - and Am Fawzy handles the dough and baking for just EGP 25. You even wash your own veggies before handing them over.
The spot has been around long enough to feed generations of Cairenes, including Ismail Yassine himself. It’s less of a restaurant and more of a DIY feteer ritual, where everyone walks in with a grocery bag and walks out with their own custom pie fresh from the oven.
