‘Steep’ Up Your Coffee Game at New Cairo’s Latest Brew Spot

Toffee crunch lattes to snickerdoodles, Trivium Square’s ‘Steep’ is adding its own twist to classic caffeinated options.

While iced Spanish latte undoubtedly reigns supreme as the go-to it-girl caffeinated beverage of the summer, oftentimes our cortisol-riddled souls yearn for an extra kick of flavour, perhaps an extra drizzle of toffee nut syrup in our lattes, or maybe some honey and cinnamon infused cappuccinos. Adding its own little twist of flavour on classic caffeine go-tos, New Cairo’s Steep Coffee at Trivium Square mall is where coffee is “steeped in excellence.”

Steep Coffee’s offerings are anything but overwhelming, - and thankfully so, God knows we can’t handle any more decision making, - yet everything that is offered is on the menu for a reason. “It’s a curated menu, nothing that doesn’t need to be there is there,” Steep Coffee founder, Sama Genena, tells SceneEats.

Serving up the classics, lattes, cappuccinos, americanos, mochas, amongst other staples, Steep also offers several fun caffeinated drinks, including toffee nut, brown sugar, and cinnamon and honey variants on lattes, as well as matchas. For a little snack on the side, Steep’s menu also features lite sandwiches, as well as signature sweet ‘monkey bread,’ pretzel brownies, and snickerdoodles (cookies are so 2023).

Yet, for founder Sama Genena, Steep Coffee was not quite in the grand plan of things. Funny enough, Genena had indeed set out to start her own business, drawing from the experience of her family’s business in the F&B industry, yet wanted to do “anything but a coffee place” as she shares with SceneEats. However when an opportunity came about to host a temporary coffee booth at Trivium Square as part of an on-going event last year, the chance proved too good to let go of.

When Genena found success in the booth, she thought “why not keep this going?” Though initially sceptical of her ‘hostess abilities,’ Genena soon found a natural inclination for the role, and has since dedicated her time to Steep Coffee. Yet coffee is not all that Steep serves, aiming to provide a fun space for all who come for sips, Genena hosts several workshops in collaboration with other independent businesses and individuals, such as beading workshops and “more to come,” Genena teases.
