Uncle Zack is No Regular Uncle…He’s a Cool Uncle (With Croissants)
Serving up all sorts of baked goods in Cairo and Mansoura, this spot is the ‘Zack’ of all trades.
In Arabic there’s a saying that goes ‘el khal waled’, which literally translates to ‘the uncle is the father’, which again roughly translates to ‘if your father sets out to buy milk and never comes back, you can ask your uncle for lunch money,’ but that’s beside the point. In the case of Uncle Zack though, while you can’t - and shouldn’t - ask him for lunch money, you can count on him with every fibre of your being to deliver some top-notch croissants, and a lot more.
With two branches, one in Cairo’s G7 Complex in New Cairo and one in Gomhoreya St. in Mansoura, Uncle Zack - not to be confused with Uncle Sam - is an A to Z café, bakery and deli specialising in ‘your daily treats’, with said treats covering a whole range of baked goods from almond croissants all the way to tiramisus and mini pizzas reminiscent of calm Friday morning breakfasts with the family.
Though Uncle Zack’s menu is prolific in terms of offerings, it is not at all overwhelming, seeing as it caters to all sorts of folks craving all sorts of carb-a-licious treats. You’ll find your coffee of choice, all sorts of brownies, muffins, croissants, and doughnuts, and you’ll be glad to hear that they take their classic Egyptian bakeries seriously, seeing as the displays are always stocked with sausage rolls, manai’ish, and proper Egyptian ‘baskoot’.
Further catering to all us sweet-toothers out there, Uncle Zack also has cakes, tarts, dessert cups - think tiramisu, red velvet, and a whole lot more, and has received quite a few raving reviews for their San Sebastian cheesecakes.
While Uncle Zack’s edible offerings are enticing enough, they’re made even more so with their warm and inviting interiors at New Cairo’s G7 Complex. Swathed in emerald green, Uncle Zack is a pretty cool spot to keep on your radar the next time you plan a catch-up with your best friend.
