Egypt’s Koshary El Tahrir Will Open in New York City

Forget hot dogs - Times Square is entering its koshary era.

Imagine you’re in Times Square. Neon everywhere. Tourists mid-spin. Someone dressed as Spider-Man asking for $20. And then - through the chaos - you catch it. The unmistakable scent of crispy onions, spiced tomato sauce, and garlic vinegar cutting through Manhattan air.

That’s not homesickness. That’s Koshary El Tahrir.

The Downtown Cairo institution is officially expanding to New York City, with its first U.S. flagship currently underway - and yes, it’s set to open in Times Square. The storefront banner has already gone up, marking the brand’s leap from Tahrir Square to one of the world’s busiest intersections.

From carb-on-carb comfort to full-blown cultural export, Egypt’s most iconic street dish is about to take on NYC. And honestly? Times Square has seen everything. But a proper koshary moment might just be its best plot twist yet.
