Hazel Farm is Hosting an Official Figs & Olivers Festival

The Figs & Olives Harvest Festival pairs farm picking with guided workshops and a take-home jar of jam or pickles.

Scene Eats

FigFigs and olives, two ingredients usually encountered after somebody else has completed the agricultural portion of the transaction, are briefly returning visitors to first principles. This September, Hazel Farm’s Figs & Olives Harvest Festival is inviting guests onto the farm for a full day of picking, making and discovering precisely how much labour stands between a tree and the civilised contents of a breakfast table.

The programme moves from harvesting into hands-on workshops, where the day’s produce will be turned into jam and pickles. It is a practical education in seasonality, preservation and the mild astonishment of making something normally purchased in a jar. There will also be fresh country air, an amenity whose appeal increases in direct proportion to the number of hours one has recently spent in Cairo traffic.

Every guest leaves Hazel Farm with a small jar of handcrafted jam or pickles made during the workshop, providing both proof of labour and something to place rather proudly in the refrigerator. The festival takes place on Friday, September 4th, with bookings available directly through Hazel Farm or Kidzapp.
