Mish Mogarad Akla: The New UNHCR Ramadan Cooking Show Shedding Light on Refugees in Egypt
The show hosts celebrities and refugees living in Egypt who share a little taste of their national dishes, culture and generally chitchat.
TV presenter, actress and - UNHCR ambassador to Egypt – has, yet again, joined forced with the UNHCR to start to bring attention to refugees living in Egypt and tell their stories through a Ramadan cooking show and campaign “Mish Mogarad Akla.”

For every episode of the show, Arafa invites one celebrity and one refugee (living in Egypt) as guests, and the refugees cooks a dish from his/her country, while sharing personal tidbits, memories, stories and even songs from their homeland, and just generally chitchatting. The show has been serving as a platform for the guests to connect and share about food and otherwise.
“We decided to come up with a concept that would allow us to find out more about refugees, more about their stories and more about how we can support them,” shared Arafa in her Instagram page. The show – which airs every Wednesday and Saturday at 5pm on @unhcregypt throughout the month of Ramadan – has already featured Syrian actress Kinda Alloush and Yemeni refugee Sayeda who cooked up the traditional Yemeni dish of Shafoot. Arafa has also hosted actress and producer Ola Roshdy along with Eritrian aspiring psychologist Sa’ada who prepared the traditional Eriterian dish of Zigni.
