Ah, ramen. The globally-cherished Japanese noodle soup that’s – arguably – one of the most comforting dishes in the whole entire world. Fight us. The dish is composed of a wonderful harmony of five main elements: the broth, the tare (sauce or seasoning), noodles, toppings and oil, which all come together to make up for this culinary masterpiece. We’re disappointed to acknowledge- though that options in Egypt serving good ramen are – to say the very least – rather limited, but hoping to spread the word of the wonderfulness that is ramen are foodie couple Mahmoud Maklad and Reem Atef – who are coming through with their gorgeous Instagram page @ra3men, boasting photos of their different ramen dishes, all made 100% from scratch.

“Whenever we travel, my wife and I visit every ramen shop there is. We love the dish. All of its five components lead to a hug in a bowl,” Maklad tells SceneEats, “I’m part of a community of people who make ramen from all around the world – from professionals to home cooks – and we talk every day. When they found out Egypt doesn’t have many good ramen options, they decided to make me their ‘ramen ambassador’ to Egypt.”

The couple started making ramen from scratch and posting photos of them online once a week, in an attempt to get Egyptians more about what ramen is all about and what makes it so great. With Atef being a food photographer, it’s no surprise that their grid is foodie Instagram goals.

“We started a page as a way to document our ramen journey,” added Maklad. It seems as though the ramen-loving couple have bigger plans for the future of ramen in Egypt because they soon have plans to create kits containing all the five elements of ramen – including handmade noodles – where all people have to do is boil the noodles for a few minutes, heat the ingredients, to make the ultimate bowl of ramen. Because the couple want to make sure the kits are perf af, they want to truly finesse them before their release, so keep it locked to their Instagram for the latest updates.
