Cairo's Best 6 Spots to Order Actual Ramen From

Ramen is one of my all-time favourite foods. That is exactly why it fills me with so much sadness and sorrow that we don’t have any ramen shops/restaurants/bars in Egypt; a fact I honestly find unbelievable. Why, you ask? Because us Egyptians eat nothing but Indomie noodles. I mean, we now have literal Indomie carts in the streets that sell the popular noodle cups -- so what’s stopping us from having joints that serve actual ramen, AKA thick-bone broths that are filled with slurpy noodles? Well, let us tell you that we do, indeed, have a few places that do just that, there’s just sadly not that many options.

Without further ado, here are the best and only places (quite possibly) to slurp ramen in Cairo. Oh, and they all deliver so your quarantine is sorted.

Kokio Chicken // Maadi 

Price: 80 EGP

What you need to know: The Korean restaurant only has one type of ramen and it happens to be the non-halal type; pork. If that happens to tickle your fancy, make sure to tell them to add veggies and an egg for the toppings as they're usually not generous. 

Tomato // Maadi

What you need to know: The hole in the wall eatery uses actual instant-ramen noodles to make the dish, so you won't be able to know what's available for you to slurp on unless you ask them first. 

Sakura Sushi // Maadi

What you need to know: They have three types of toppings: chicken, beef, and shrimps. 

Hana // Zamalek

Price: 90 EGP

Location: Building 25, Hassan Assem Street, Zamalek

What you need to know: You're the king/queen of your own ramen kingdom at the Zamalek restaurant. All you have to do is pay 90 EGP and ask for whatever you want. Spicy chicken broth? Two soft-boiled eggs as toppings? And maybe even some broccoli? Well, Hana is here to serve you ramen realness. 

Makino // Zamalek 

Price: 200 EGP

What you need to know: Arguably the best Japanese restaurant in the country, Makino is the only joint that serves more than one type of ramen -- from kaisen tanmen to goma tantanmen, and so much more.
