In the shimmering heart of Cairo, Cairo Food Week unfolded, an event that was less a festival and more a poetic interweaving of histories and palates. From May 9th to 16th, 2024, the city pulsed with a vibrant confluence of culinary events, talks, exhibitions, screenings, and activities, spread like a rich tapestry across its most evocative lifestyle districts and cultural venues.
More than 40 events danced through the week, showcasing the talents of over 20 celebrated chefs, alongside luminaries and emerging stars from Egypt and the broader MENA region. This gathering was not merely about food but about the alchemical transformation of ingredients and ideas, the fostering of connections, and the creation of collaborations that transcend borders.
A moment of particular resonance was the first official Cairo Food Week Press Conference, held at Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at Nile Plaza on May 12. This was followed by a dinner that felt almost mythic in its conception, featuring guest Chef Riccardo Forapani, Hotel Executive Chef Benat Alonso, and Chef de Cuisine Stefano Maffioli Ferrari at the Riviera restaurant. The seven-course menu, crafted from locally sourced organic products, included such marvels as Crème Caramel al Parmigiano Reggiano and Mediterranean Yellow Tail with almond cold broth.

Cairo Food Week was a celebration of Egypt’s culinary history, but it was also a platform for knowledge sharing, an invitation to the world to taste and see the rich offerings of this ancient and ever-renewing land. It was a gathering of chefs, restaurateurs, food entrepreneurs, designers, and artists, all converging to honor and explore the deep and diverse gastronomic heritage of Egypt.
