7 Must-Try Restaurants When Visiting Tanta

It's worth the two-hour drive from Cairo.

Staff Writer

Somewhere between Cairo and Alexandria lies a beautiful city called Tanta. Located in the governorate of El Gharbeya, Tanta is known as the home to Egypt's best hummus, halawa shaa'r and hab el aziz, but what you may not know is that it also has a few restaurants that are worth the two-hour drive there. What we're basically saying is, whether or not you have family or work in Tanta, we recommend you get yourselves there.

Posto

Posto is pasta and pasta is posto as far as the Tantaweya are concerned.

Location: Kesm 2, Botrous Street

Deskoy & Soda

Fun fact/Plot twist: Desoky & Soda was born in Tanta. It's a Tanta brand. It's not a Cairo brand. Oh, and you absolutely cannot visit Tanta without trying halawa shaa'r from here.

Location: Mall of Tanta, Botrous Street

Carlito

If you're a sucker for sweet things, then Carlito is where you'll probably end up tbh. If you're stuck with friends who (are dumb and) don't share the same love you have for the finer things of life, worry not because you'll also find plenty of savoury options for them.

Location: Kesm 2, Obour Mall

El Antabli

Get their hawawshi pizza. That is all.

Location: Kesm 2, Said Street

Abo Omar

Omar must be very lucky and very full since his dad whips out tagines like no other in Tanta. Brb while we try to get him to adopt us.

Location: Kesm 2, El Nady Street

Sector 7

Medium rare steak with a side of shisha tofa7? Yes, please.

Location: Tanta Road, Mahla Highway

El Kababgy

Every carnivore out there will love and appreciate this protein-filled Kababgy

Location: Kesm 2, Hassan Radwan Street
