Piknik Bar Curates Personalised Picnic Baskets for Any Occasion
This Cairo-based cloud kitchen and catering service can personalise any event, from quiet picnics to post-tournament celebrations.
Professional tennis and catering are two industries that don’t seem to have much overlap. Ask Abdullah Genedy, however, and a myriad of similarities will begin to appear.
Genedy is the founder of Piknik Bar, a Cairo-based food and experience brand that operates as a cloud kitchen, catering service, and food truck. On the surface, it's a picnic concept - curated baskets, stylish outdoor setups, a signature yellow and white aesthetic that photographs well and travels easily. But Genedy is quick to push back on any straightforward description.
"We're more than just a food truck or picnic basket service," he says. "We're a concept-driven food and experience brand."
Genedy spent years competing as a professional tennis player, leading a life built around tournaments, speed, and the relentless discipline of high-performance sport. What really stayed with him, however, was the calm after an event: “the moments after matches, the social side of sports, the atmosphere, and feeling of being present.”
Piknik Bar was created to hold these moments and curate them in ways that elevate their experience. “I wanted to create something that captures those moments,” he says, “the calm after intensity, the beauty of slowing down, and turning simple gatherings into something meaningful and aesthetic.”
Travelling and competing abroad opened Genedy up to a whole new world of intention: where a meal or gathering could be designed with the same care and intention as anything else.
“What I saw missing in Cairo wasn't just food,” Genedy explains, “it was the experience around it. Cairo had amazing food, but lacked that layer of intentional experience." Piknik Bar is his answer to that gap. Inspired by global picnic culture, the brand is built around the idea that environment and presentation can transform something ordinary - lunch with friends, a post-match wind-down, a private celebration - into something that feels special.
Their signature Piknik baskets can be personalised to fit a variety of experiences. A classic one comes with their staple white and yellow gingham blanket, along with a variety of fresh sandwiches, sweet treats, and refreshing drinks. An athletic event, for example, would offer health-conscious options, while a tennis event would curate themed experiences and a strict optic yellow colour code.
“They’re designed to feel effortless but intentional,” says Genedy, “something you can take anywhere and instantly create a vibe.”
For now, Piknik Bar runs as a cloud kitchen, which Genedy sees less as a limitation and more as creative control. "It gives me full control over quality and allows me to focus on getting the food and concept right," he explains. "It's efficient, flexible, and allows me to build the brand step by step."
Their catering service is where the concept is most visible. Genedy has worked on private gatherings, branded activations, and, of course, tennis and sports events - which he describes as his personal favourite. "There's something personal about them," he says. "They combine my world as an athlete with what I'm building through Piknik Bar. It feels natural, not forced."
Tennis, he points out, teaches you consistency and attention to detail, and those qualities translate directly to the catering industry. "Piknik Bar is really where both sides of me meet: the structured, disciplined athlete and the creative, experience-driven mindset."
Piknik Bar's future hopes to include a physical location, as well as a branded food truck. But the core of what Piknik Bar is trying to do will always remain the same to its devoted founder: “It's about making people feel something,” Genedy says, “not just feeding them.”
