The restaurant serves some of the most iconic dishes from both the Syrian and Egyptian cuisines.

A couple of months ago, our Instagram comments section under our Egyptian Shawerma vs. Syrian shawarma listicle sparked some major debate about the superior cuisine. Well, a brand new restaurant called ‘SooMasry’ in Maadi doesn’t make you choose, but gives you the best of both worlds (to quote the great Hannah Montana). The Syrian-Egyptian restaurant has just opened its doors to customers in October, and combines the flavours and recipes of both cuisines.

Because we all know breakfast is the most important meal of the day, SooMasry come through with a selection of interesting dishes like ‘Fool bel Laban’ (Fool with in a light yoghurt sauce, tahini and olive oil), in addition to olive oil and zaatar sandwiches, makdous, and labneh. Some Egyptian breakfast classics on their menu are shakshouka, falafel and sugar couscous. You can also opt for mezzehs like safihah, tabbouleh, sogo’ and baba ghanoug. Their main meals change daily, and dessert stans can nom on oriental sweets, halawet jibin, feteer meshaltet amongst other options.

You can find ‘SooMasry’ at 18 Road 9, Maadi.
