Introducing ‘Undagi’: The New Pastry Shop Bringing the Delish Japanese Cream Puff to Egypt

‘Undagi’ is the new brand offering Japanese cream puffs filled with matcha, lotus, chocolate cream and so much more.

Okay, kids. For those who don’t know, Undagi is a Japanese puff pastry filled with super decadent differently-flavoured creams, and it’s about to touch down in Cairo, thanks to the newest pastry spot in Cairo under the name same name. According to the founders – Mostafa Saadany and Mohamed Kamel - the dessert – and other types of cream puff desserts similar to it – was first popularised in Japan, before it started garnering popularity around the world, for its light and airy texture. The idea all started when the founders visited Japan on a business trip, where they came across this delicacy after a long, day, and immediately fell in love.

“I’ve been in the hospitality industry for 10 years, specialising in luxury hotels,” Saadany told SceneEats, “In all my years as hotel general manager alongside Michelin star chefs, I’ve never tasted a dessert this beautiful, in terms of taste, flavour and above all, instant nostalgia. In a nutshell, I really fell in love with Undagi because it brings happiness to whoever bites into it.”

The range of cream flavours offered by Undagi's include matcha, lotus, chocolate and vanilla – and are available in both regular and mini sizes.

Undagi will open its first-ever store in Cairo Festival City this weekend (July 4th, to be specific) and Hacienda Bay in Sahel on July 8th (because Instagram pics of cream puffs with the sea in the background seem like influencer goals tbh).
