Karak Tap Emerges as a South Asian Hotspot in East Cairo

Looks like tea won’t be the only thing we’re spilling at Karak Tap.

Riham Issa

On a particularly eventful Sunday morning, with drooping eyelids and foggy brains, an impromptu detour to the nearest gas station during our work commute unveiled an unexpected and serendipitous discovery that will forever alter our morning routines.

Although our quest for a much-needed cup of coffee proved fruitless, it was during this adventure that we stumbled upon a rich, velvety, caramel-hued elixir - Karak tea. This newfound beverage - and accompanying food options - proved to be a better companion on challenging days than a simple pick-me-up coffee date.

Nestled in Madinty's Chillout station, Karak Tap creates an ambiance of spiced tranquillity, reminiscent of lively street stalls. Embracing the vibrant heritage of South Asia and the Arabian Peninsula, Karak Tap offers a symphony of flavours, blending the sweetness of fermented tea leaves with spices, including cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, and saffron.

However, if you're in a hurry, their menu features an array of delicacies for both breakfast and brunch - from crispy Kiri Keema, Eggs and Veggies, and Chicken Chapati wraps to Crunchy Samosa, Masala chips, and Bakora bites.
