Social Coffee Roasters: How This Egyptian Brand Is Transforming Coffee from a Commodity into a Community
Get yourself ready for something brewtiful!
We never really got the phrase "grab a coffee" because it doesn't do coffee any justice. Coffee should be something that is consumed with great pleasure and be given a bigger portion of our time. This probably occurs because coffee is so commercialised nowadays that only a few people actually care about what's inside that paper cup. Social Specialty Coffee, however, is here to change this.
This new brand of specialty coffee serves way more than just brown, caffeine-packed drinks; they serve an entire experience. During a private event held by them last weekend, we had the chance to chat with one of the founders, Hussein Bahgat, who happens to be certified by the Speciality Coffee Association (SCA) in coffee brewing, roasting and sensory analysis. Bahgat started studying coffee around four years ago in Toronto, which is exactly where the concept of Social Coffee Roasters was born three years later. He told us that he wants Social Coffee Roasters to become a “one shop stop for the full coffee experience.”
Social Coffee Roasters was never meant to be just a coffee shop, the vision was to have a place where people can go to learn more about coffee and its journey from bean to cup, and be part of their own coffee-making process. They also provide consultation services, with a goal to build a coffee community where people are more aware of what they’re drinking and how it ended up in their cups.
Today, you can order Social Coffee Roasters blends online from their website. They have different coffee blends that are sourced from different parts of the world like Brazil, Columbia, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Costa Rica and El Salvador. The coffee shop will be in operation very soon, but until then you can get to try their signature blends at home.
