When the casual existential meltdown hits you hard by the beach, nothing can ground you like a mouthful of nostalgia; which is exactly why Meltdown (the restaurant, not the emotional state) is here. With a cool twist on Teta’s signature comfort snack, Meltdown opens up a portal to an alternative universe of grilled cheese.
The grilled cheese sandwich is a classic. It’s been around since the early 1900s (although there are traces of it in ancient Roman recipe scriptures) and is an easy go-to when you’re too hungry to think or crying into your phone. We’ve seen it get made in pans, toasters, waffle makers and even ironing boards (Benny & Joon style). We have yet to see it get elevated into a gourmet dish the way Meltdown is doing it.
With a delicious base of sourdough white bread (or sourdough whole-wheat if you’re the insufferable healthy eater in the group), this sandwich is already proving to be a not-like-the-other-sandwiches pick-me. It doesn’t stop there though, the restaurant offers a range of sandwiches to choose from, all including cheese, that are bound to have us as in love as Harley Quinn was with that egg sandwich in Birds of Prey. Even the sweet options, Banana Nutella and Blueberry, are laced with the delicious addition of premium cream cheese.
Obviously, the inescapable question is: what to order? You can go with the fan favourite, The Beast, a scrumptious combination of a whopping four kinds of cheese, smoked brisket, sliced apples, caramelised onions, and Dijon mustard. Or, you can let your imagination run wild with possibility and pick your own ingredients to construct The Perfect Sandwich (you might want Jake from Adventure Time’s input on that, though). The kiosk also offers regular and brisket/cheddar cheese-loaded fries.
Perfect for impromptu beach dates, you have four mirror walls to check your teeth and your hair and also to find out early on if your date can hold a 5-minute conversation without accidentally gazing at themselves in the mirror. Head to Hacienda Bay now for an exquisite sandwich experience.
