Where to Find The Best Stir-Fried Noodles in Cairo

And no, a shrimp did not fry these noodles.

Ziyad El-Helbawy

There are very few universal truths in life, but among these limited epiphanies, two are particularly relevant to this week's guide. First, if comfort food had its own comfort food, it would be fried noodles. Second, you'll find more fried noodles in Maadi than actual people, and we wouldn't say that's hyperbolic.

A culinary staple that takes myriad forms across pan-Asian cuisine, fried noodles have long been revered throughout Southeast Asia and, in recent decades, have unabashedly taken over the world. The perfect meal for slurping your worries away, this week’s SceneEats Guide highlights some of our favourite spots around Cairo serving up all sorts of fried noodle dishes.

Sapporo | Galae Square, Dokki

Located at the Sheraton Cairo Hotel and Casino in Dokki, Sapporo has garnered a reputation for itself with its iconic Teppanyaki shows. Stir-fried straight on the griddle, Sapporo’s Hibachi fried noodles is undoubtedly one of the main characters of the aforementioned shows.

Peking | Branches all over Egypt

To not include Peking in this guide is to blaspheme, and for good reason. Peking is one of the oldest Chinese franchises in Egypt, and given their years of experience, it's safe to say their noodles are hard to top.

Gaya | Maadi as Sarayat, Maadi

Maadi’s crowning jewel, Gaya is the name on every Korean-barbeque lover’s lips. Serving classic fried noodles with beef, chicken, seafood, or vegan options, Gaya is proof that sometimes basic reigns supreme.

Yangtze Qù | The Nox Mall, New Cairo

A criminally underrated spot, Nox Mall’s Yangtze Qù serves up all sorts of pan-Asian classics, and their Udon noodles are definitely not to be missed. Stirred up with soy, sesame oil, and shiitake mushrooms, these noodles are not for the faint of heart.

NÜWA | Garden 8, New Cairo

Your friend group just can’t seem to settle on what to eat? Nuwa is a safe bet. Serving up all sorts of Asian cuisines from Chinese to Thai and all the way round back to Indian, Nuwa has mastered multiple culinary arts, and most importantly, the art of the noodle.

8 Restaurant | Four Seasons Nile Plaza, Cairo

Named after Chinese culture’s luckiest number, 8 at the Four Seasons Nile Plaza is all about traditional Cantonese delicacies, and their classic egg stir-fried noodles are proof of their commitment.

Lan Yuan | Road 9, Maadi

Every Maadi corporate employee’s go-to lunch, Lan Yuan is the culinary saving grace of many. A ‘hidden gem’ sort of spo - and we don’t say that lightly, you actually have to know where you’re looking to find it -  Lan Yuan’s tavern-esque charm carries over into their noodles, which are simply sumptuous.

Reif Kushiyaki | 5A, New Cairo, & Marassi, North Coast

Looking to impress your date (and most likely break your bank?) Reif Kushiyaki is where to be. But jokes aside, this Japanese Kushiyaki spot does not skewer around when it comes to noodles. Our personal recommendation? The Chicken Yakisoba fried ramen dish.

Silk Road | Maadi as Sarayat, Maadi

Authentically Chinese, Silk Road carries over all the flavours of - well, you guessed it - the silk road into each and every dish, and the noodles are no exception.

Don Eatery | Branches all over Cairo

Need we introduce Don? The only thing - subjectively - better than their signature Teriyaki fries is their Bulgogi noodles, and it gets even better than that, seeing as you can order both…and have both! Shocking, right? Now excuse us, we know where we’re headed…
