Fulfill Your Ultimate Sweet Tooth Fantasies with New Online Bakery ‘Fika’
Founded by a Germany-trained chef, Fika delivers sweet and savoury baked goodies across Cairo.
Ernestine Ulmer, an American author born in 1925, once famously said “life is short, eat dessert first” and Ern, given the year 2020 has been, we couldn’t agree more. With that thought in mind, allow us to introduce a new bakery in Maadi under the name of ‘Fika’, offering Instagrammable pies, cakes, brownies and savoury options for those who aren’t fans of desserts (aka people we don’t trust) or those who don’t discriminate and love every single kind of food (us).
At Fika – which, interestingly enough is a Swedish concept that means ‘making time for your friends over a coffee or a little something to eat’ – some of the items you can find include carrot cake, apple pie, brownies, dark and white chocolate cupcakes, as well as a range of pies like veggie, eggplant and zucchini, and cheese biscuits and tarts.
“I used to work in a bakery in Germany, which is where I learnt everything [about baking and cooking],” founder Nesrin El Sobky tells SceneEats, “I always had a passion for the kitchen and obviously still do. What makes Fika different is that all our products are 100% homemade and freshly-baked using no artificial ingredients, and we serve the exact same products we would want to eat ourselves.”
