Meet Farah Mostafa: The 10 Year-Old Kitchen-Obsessed Chef Slaying on YouTube RN

Diagnosed as being hard of hearing at the age of two, Farah took to YouTube at only 10 years old to show off her true passion: cooking.

When she was almost two years, Farah Mostafa’s parents found out that she was hard of hearing, leading them to immediately take action and after numerous operations over the years, Mostafa eventually installed a hearing aid when she was eight years old. Unfortunately, due to many failed attempts and medical malpractice in the years prior, Mostafa still has a hard time with speaking and pronunciation until today because of the fact that children learn to speak by hearing those around them starting from the age of one.

Now 10 years-old, Mostafa discovered her uninhibited and powerful love for cooking, after watching some of her TV chefs and mimicking them. In an effort to help her follow her passion, and in hopes of getting her to be able to better audibly understand and express herself through speech, Mostafa’s mum – Al-Shaimaa Ahmed – helped her start her very own YouTube channel called “Chef Farah Mostafa.” The channel – launched right before Ramadan of this year and has now garnered almost 5000 subscribers – sees the mini-chef make all kinds of Egyptian dishes, like different pastas, Fattah, fried chicken and local traditional dish, bessara. She also makes a range of desserts, including cakes and gâteaux.

“More than anything, Farah wants to be famous,” Ahmed tells SceneEats, “Whatever confidence she lacks in public and when talking to people, she makes up for when she’s cooking in front of the camera and she really belongs there. I’d love for people to watch her channel and support her in pursuing her passion.”

Mostafa has already been featured on various Egyptian cooking shows and hopes to one day – have a TV show of her own.
