Minnie's Dried Products Are Every Fruitarian’s Wet Dream
Minnie’s sells a huge range of locally produced solar dried fruits and vegetables whilst empowering underprivileged women in rural areas.
In 2010 geologist and and former director of development at AUC Menar Meebed founded Minnie’s after discovering the lack of healthy food options in Egypt for her grandchildren and set on her way to grow what’s now a dried fruit and vegetable empire producing more than 600KG a week.
With wet fruits being sooo 2000 and date and everyone going bananas for dried fruits in their healthy, hipster oatmeals, yoghurt jars and salads these days it’s refreshing to know there’s a local organic producer to buy from in a country that more often than not exclusively exports its highest quality fruits.
Not only that, but Minnie’s is environmentally woke and dedicated to the empowerment of women in rural areas. Pear with us and we’ll explain how; Minnie's first solar dehydration project was launched in Dahshour, Giza in March 2011 and relies entirely on solar energy and local products and labor. The packaging of the product is recyclable and the carbon footprint of the project is minimal. The underprivileged women on the farm have been given an opportunity to learn new skills for employment and have increased self-autonomy to improve their standard of living.
Minnie's products are seasonal, based on what's available locally and their dried products are 100% natural, without any added sugar, chemicals, preservatives, or flavor enhancers of any kind. Because of their particular drying technique, the product's nutritional value isn’t compromised.
Aside from a massive range of dried fruit options from apricots to harankash they also produce solar dried seeds and herbs and dried vegetables too.
Minnie’s deliver across Egypt as well as outside the country. To get your hands on some delicious dried products head to their website here.
