New Cairo’s Wa7wa7 is Coming Through With Seafood Sandwich Realness
Wa7wa7 is the new New Cairo restaurant offering the long-cherised Egyptian culinary tradition of fried seafood sandwiches.
If you’re a seafood stan, you’ll be quite familiar with the on-the-go Egyptian tradition of fried fish, shrimp and calamari aka sobeit sandwiches in warm balady bread – that really just end up being vehicles for endless mounds of tehina. Coming through with that super familiar flavour is Wa7wa7, a new restaurant in New Cairo focused on seafood sandwiches, as well as a few other items for non-seafood lovers.
Wa7wa7 mainly offer fried fish, shrimp and calamari – along with an interesting addition of shrimp curry – sandwiches in baladi bread. Their menu also boasts a varied selection of – ahem – Viagra fish, shrimp and batarekh sandwiches. If you’re not a fan of seafood in bread, Wa7Wa7 also offer a range of seafood with rice and tehina on the side. Interestingly, one of the sections on the menu is labelled 18+ (best), showcasing a colossal sandwich ft. caviar, cheddar cheese, smoked salmon and mozzarella cheese (we understand nothing but we’re into it anyways).
