This Walking Tour Turns Alexandria Into a Moving Menu
You can stroll and eat your way through memory lane along the Mediterranean shores.
What’s better than talking a stroll down memory lane surrounded by some of the structures that shaped some of your best days? Combining that walk with delicious eats that invoke the same nostalgia.
‘Flashback in Flavours,’a story-based walking tour through Montazah Gardens, gives you the chance to do just that. The collaborative effort is brought to life through a partnership between tour company Footnotes and local eatery The Alexandria Deli who are behind a mid-walk picnic packed with Alexandrian delicacies that have put the city’s culinary scene on the map.
Footnotes, founded by an Egyptian-Guatemalan couple Wafaa and Juan, brings the city to life through walking tours that go beyond the touristic sites we’ve become familiar with.
The Alexandria Deli, a local eatery in the heart of Kafr Abdo dedicated to the rich culinary traditions of the city, was an idea that came from the passion and love that founder Karim El Moselhi has for the Mediterranean city.
“I’m from here, I always wanted to come back here and start something for the city,” El Moselhi said.
A born and raised Alexandrian, El Moselhi moved back to his hometown after spending four years in Cairo. While trying to rediscover Alexandria, he stumbled upon footnotes and the two companies came up with 'Flashback in Flavours.'
Highlights of the tour include the Royal Train Station Museum, Royal Greenhouse, Salamlak and Haramlek Palaces (viewed from the outside), Sadat’s Chalet as well as other hidden details, artistic touches, and human stories along the way.
Tickers are available through both the Footnotes and The Alexandria Deli’s Instagram pages.
