Jojo’s Ranch is Serving Prime Meat Cut Realness in All the Best Ways

We spoke to founder Youssef Moukhtar on how he founded his passion project, and we came out the other end wanting to live on a ranch.

“After years of going through the struggle of “what do I want from life?” I finally came out the other end realising what has always and continues to make me happy. Nature, animals and food. From childhood all the way into adulthood. The passion remains the same,” Youssef Moukhtar, owner of Jojo’s Ranch tells SceneEats.

The ranch in question is an Egyptian meat and poultry provider that has created a safe haven for animals to live out a happy life. That is before getting, you know, el choppo. But alas, circle of life.

Far from your run-of-the-mill farm (pun intended), Jojo’s is a passion project by Moukhtar. The project is a life-long goal that has taken him here, there and back again to Egypt in 2018 to manifest the dream. Moukhtar spent decades travelling around in search of the perfect zen and fulfillment, and after roaming 42 countries and trying to perfect the 9-to-5 to his favour, he then realised his calling was the ranch.

His infatuation with meat and dedication to founding his own animal kingdom had him study meat for two years, and reading every written text he can get his hands on regarding the best animal raising practices. And then one year later, voila! A ranch was born.

“I moved to Egypt in April 2018, and since then I only spent three days off of the farm. It took a year to build the ranch, and we were officially launched in May 2019. The name was an easy pick, it’s my childhood nickname + dream. Jojo’s Ranch,” Moukhtar adds.

Jojo’s offers mastered prime cuts of meat, all carefully and passionately prepared that simply makes it a cut above the rest. What sets them apart is incorporating many world-class techniques into the ranch that are, according to Jojo’s, proven to be effective. The project quickly became an attraction as well, with over 4,000 visitors, mainly organised school trips, that took visitors through life on the ranch and to have some one-on-one with the furry friends.

“I think what really helps Jojo’s stand out is, on top of our holistic animal husbandry techniques, is the fact that everyone on the ranch is entirely devoted. So much so that 12 out of 19 of our employees live on the farm,” Moukhtar points out. “It has quickly become this community where we’re all leading a collective life with no stress, enjoying nature and spending time with the animals. Seeing all this come together is really the best pay off I could’ve asked for.”

Jojo’s also plans to expand the farm from just a visitor attraction, to a fully realised vacation setting where you won’t just pet a goat and call it a day, but you’d be able to spend a couple of nights. And given the current circumstances, who wouldn’t want a few nights in a homestead? Sign us up.
