The next time you think you're an actual stan, think again.
When one loves and admires a certain author, they'll most probably end up buying every book by them. They might even get one of their quotes as a tattoo if they're feeling a little risque. Khan El Khalili spot, Naguib Mahfouz, has decided to be uber extra by taking stan culture to the next level.
When Egyptian writer Naguib Mafouz nabbed the Nobel Prize in 1988, a cafe was erected just by Al Hussein and El Moez streets to celebrate the iconic author and his victory. Upon entering, you'll feel as if you were transported back in time to el zaman el gameel, where oud and qanun were still being played and Abdel-Halim classics were belted out whilst you played backgammon over a molokhia.
Naguib Mahfouz (the cafe, not the person) serves food that would make Mama shook, from grills to tagines, Om Ali and everything in between.
