Ta’am El-Heroof: The Book Exploring Arab Women's Complex Relationship With Food
The book explores the intricacies of food as a means of healing, hunger and the power dynamics in relation to Egyptian and Arab women.
Ta’am El-Heroof is a collaborative project that invited a group of writers and editors to share anecdotes, foods, food experiences and questions, all surrounding the same theme, and was later compiled into a book that explores the dynamic and layered relationship between women and food. The publication, heavily influenced by the process of consumption of these culinary experiences and explores the intricacies of food as a means of healing, hunger and the power dynamics in relation to Egyptian and Arab women.
The book also explores the act and undertones of cooking food for another person, the journey of food from where it comes from to its ultimate spot on the dining table and the food secrets contained within the confines of kitchens and homes, the relationship between emotions and cooking and the trials and tribulations that accompany being vulnerable through writing. If you’re interested in hearing more about the book, the Contemporary Image Collective will be hosting an open discussion, in Arabic, in the presence of the contributors on March 17th at 7 pm.
