Country Tea is Maadi’s Newest Authentic Chinese Boba Tea Spot

And these Chinese ladies mean business…

Scene Eats

Boba is a delicacy – and we will not hear otherwise. Naturally, as with any other delicacy, a meticulous process must be followed; it’s practically a ritual. First, the bubbling cauldrons are summoned, and then the mystical pearls are dropped into the brew like some ancient potion – well, we might have gotten carried away with the dramatics, but you get the point. At Country Tea in Degla, Maadi, boba is a lifestyle for its three Chinese expat owners.

Country Tea specialises in two things and two things only; Boba, and Sushi (quite the complementary pairing if you ask the team here at SceneEats.) While it may seem given the categorical limitations that the menu would be scarce, it is anything but. Country tea proudly whips up all sorts of classic boba variations we’ve all come to know and love; think brown sugar, coffee, and green tea boba. Yet when it comes to their specialties? They’ve gone above and beyond.

Their specialty menu includes Cherry Blossom Boba Milk, Potato Taro Purée Boba, Thai-Style Cake Milk Tea, Cheese Green Grape Boom Boba, and many more flavours you're unlikely to find elsewhere. For its founders Yan Jinshuang, Yan Jinfeng, and Yan Yan, each and every one of these flavours is one they brew themselves, with love.

Having met in Changchun, China, Yan Jinshuang, Yan Jinfeng, and Yan Yan had their paths crossed in Egypt five months ago, yearning for the flavours of home, the trio of ladies went on to launch Country Tea early 2025. “I wanted to bring the taste of my country to Egypt.” Country Tea Co-founder Yan Jinshuang tells SceneEats. “The people of Egypt are very warm and friendly, running country tea and having a hands-on role with the daily activities and operations makes me incredibly happy, it allows me to meet many friendly and lovely customers.” Jinshuang adds.

Yet, it’s not just the boba that Country Tea proudly claims mastery of, Country Tea’s menu boasts a wide array of Sushi rolls and curiously-concocted (and equally delicious) Chinese desserts. So if perhaps you find yourself wandering around the streets of Degla any time soon, and that sweet tooth starts tingling, we’d recommend popping by Country Tea to say hello.
