Egypt Now Ranks First in Africa for Fish Farming and Is Self-Sufficient When It Comes to Fish Production
In order to host Egypt’s beast ranking in the world of fish farming, Om El Donia is getting a centre solely dedicated to the study of aquaculture.
Allow us to share with you a little food for thought. Here at SceneEats, we stan an independent kween, and not only is Egypt completely self-sufficient when it comes to fish farming, Om El Donia also now ranks first in Africa for fish farming. As a country, we produce around two million tons of aquaculture every year. The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation has also announced that the national fisheries projects recently adopted by the county will provide Egypt with opportunities to export fish, which – in case you didn’t know – currently ranks third worldwide for the production of tilapia fish.
In order to further help Egypt flourish in the fish production field, the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research have recently teamed up and plan to soon establish a joint centre (spearheaded by the Suez’ University Faculty of Fisheries and the former’s Regional Office of Livestock of the African Union) focused aquaculture and fisheries. This centre will provide academic training for rearchers in the field of aquaculture research, fish-farming, marine fisheries technology and more. The African Union will be providing funding for the centre while Suez University will handle the academic logistics and training, as well as academic and office resources.
