Cairo's Best 5 Restaurants for Sharkaseya

Brb while we drown ourselves in walnut sauce!

Staff Writer

We're guessing the only reason you made it here is because you have a thing for the sharkaseya. We can't blame you because how could you not? If you happen to not know what this iconic dish is, have a seat because your life is about to get a whole lot delish! Sharkaseya is an exquisite (yes, exquisite) chicken dish served on a bed of rice and topped with walnut sauce you'll wish you were personally drowning in. Originally from Turkey, this recipe has evolved through the centuries and is now considered a Egyptian-Turkish (we stan a good couple). We here at SceneEats have scoured the corners of the city for the best sharkaseya; here they are.

Abou El Sid // Zamalek, 6th of October City, Nasr City

Covering both coasts of Cairo, Abou El Sid carries on the legend of Sayed Abou Elsid: who’s sharkaseya was exquisite (yes, again) to the extent that the Sultan of Cairo, at the time, disguised himself as a poor man and stayed with Abou El Sid for two days indulging in his food.

Walking distance from the Nile, right in between it and the Giza Zoo, lies El Mashrabia, promising you sharkaseya for days.

Carlo’s // Sheikh Zayed, New Cairo

No one combines delicious food with fine ambiance as good as Carlo’s does. When we say fine, we mean faaaaayn! Their sharkaseya is worth going to Tagamo3 or to the ends of the world in Zayed for.

Beeja // Zamalek

With a breathtaking view of the Nile and a menu that boasts Egyptian af food, you can eat your sharkaseya and post a fabulous story on Instagram, both at the same time!

Marzipan // New Cairo
