Downtown Cairo's Tablia Balady and the Five Ladies Behind It
The eatery is originally called Tablia Balady, however, it’s mostly known as Five Ladies because of the Wonder Women that reign supreme all over it.
Homemade Egyptian may sound like an easy thing to have because a) your mama or baba. b) your teta or gedo. c) someone in your family can just make it for you. But not everyone lives with their family, and not everyone has the time to see them everyday. Everyone, however, can always fancy having mahshi everyday...which is why we want to talk about these five ladies of Downtown Cairo.
Well, not five because we only met with two of them but when we said Five Ladies, we didn’t just mean five actual ladies, we meant the restaurant. The eatery is originally called Tablia Balady, however, it’s mostly known as Five Ladies because of the Wonder Women that reign supreme all over it. The restaurant is nestled away, oh-so quietly, by Talaat Harb where these She-Hulks make all these dishes that make Om El Donia the country it is. Kaware3? Molokhia? Sambousak? They do all of them in more because their menu changes every freakin’ day.
Watch the above video as we talk to Samar Kamal, one of the five ladies, about how the joint came to be.
